First Candle has become aware of amendments to bills related to infant deaths currently being considered by congressional leaders in Florida. These proposed changes represent a significant step backward in regard to compassionately investigating and diagnosing SIDS and other causes of sudden, unexpected infant deaths.

If these amendments are passed, parents experiencing the sudden death of a precious baby would be considered criminals first, with child protective services being brought in as a routine part of a criminal, rather than forensic, investigation.
