First Candle is a leading national nonprofit health charity committed to safe pregnancies and the survival of babies through the first years of life. With programs of research, education and advocacy, we are working to eliminate stillbirth, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID). We also provide compassionate grief support to anyone affected by the death of a baby through a dedicated crisis hotline at 1-800-221-7437.

This year First Candle celebrates 25 years of saving babies and supporting grieving families. Our roots in the SIDS/SUID arena run deep as a founding partner with the National Institutes of Health’s Back to Sleep campaign – the most successful public education campaign in our nation’s history. Since 2002, First Candle has also become a leader in the arena of stillbirth awareness and prevention and is currently recruiting supporters and funders for a comprehensive, multi-year national stillbirth public awareness and education campaign.
