Every year, in the United States alone, nearly 26,000 families experience the death of a precious baby before he or she has a chance to take their first breath . . . 71 families, each and every day, devastated by stillbirth.

Until recently, little has been done to further our understanding of stillbirth or develop prevention strategies that will help save these tiny lives. In 2003, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)* established the Stillbirth Collaborative Research Network (SCRN) to study the extent and causes of stillbirth in the United States
