The project prioritizes under-served families with financial need whose infants are at highest risk for SIDS and sleep-related deaths. General criteria include:

• Currently no crib available for the infant;
• Low-income status (Medicaid, CHIP and WIC program eligibility or living at or below the poverty level); and,
• At least one risk factor for SIDS and sleep-related death (African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, tobacco exposure, pre-term, low birth weight or SIDS sibling).

Your Site Coalition may identify additional eligibility criteria that are being applied across your site. First Candle’s Bedtime Basics for Babies campaign does not require proof of residence, pregnancy/recent birth or financial need. Determining these qualifications remains the responsibility of the distributing agency.
