Evaluation
An Overview
Perhaps one of the most exciting aspects of this campaign is the comprehensive program evaluation that is being conducted by our investigators, internationally recognized researchers in the areas of SIDS and infant safe-sleep:
- Rachel Moon, MD, Pediatrician and SIDS Researcher at Children’s National Medical Center and Associate Professor of Pediatrics, George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences
- Fern R. Hauck, MD, MS, Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences, Director, International Family Medicine Clinic, Department of Family Medicine, University of Virginia Health System
- James J. Kemp, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis
To date, the evaluation and its protocols have been reviewed and approved by the Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) from Children’s National Medical Center, the District of Columbia Department of Health, Seattle Children’s, the University of Virginia, and Washington University in St. Louis.
You and your agency are key partners in effectively conducting this evaluation, and we need your support on the following data collection activities:
- Complete paper surveys of your agency’s crib recipients to evaluate their knowledge, attitudes and practices related to infant sleep both before and after receiving educational information and the crib. The project will attempt to follow as many crib recipients as possible, with a follow-up evaluation being conducted two to three months after receiving the crib. You may conduct these follow-up surveys either in-person at your office or clinic, in the participant’s home or over the telephone. As part of the evaluation and under requirement from the IRBs, we need to execute Informed Consent forms, as well as a Crib Recipient, Release and Waiver of Liability with those recipients participating in the evaluation. The Informed Consent forms differ by site.
- Use this site to download surveys, Informed Consent forms and Waivers of Liability or to order educational materials.
- Completing a monthly web-based report so that we can learn more about your program’s activities, successes, challenges and distribution reach. You can access this report on the secure section of the Bedtime Basics for Babies website under Reports, Monthly Agency Report.
- Completing a monthly web-based report that captures the names and addresses of your crib recipients. We ask that you collect these data in case we need to contact one of the recipients in the future, but we would not do so without your approval and involvement. You can access this report on the secure section of the Bedtime Basics for Babies website under Reports, Monthly Agency Report.
